The story behind our chosen photos...
The photo for the front cover of our album package we chose
mainly for the high key lighting and colour which sets the mood for the song as
well as the story outline. The fact that the first photo only shows me on my
own creates an insight into how even though me and my supposed girlfriend are
close there is a distance between us. We thought that in this first photo I
looked happier than the rest that we took which is the feel we were trying to
go for as we hoped that would be the feeling of my character due to the fact
that she is in love as this point. The middle cover photo we chose to link the
story together as it is one of the main ones which shows both me and Lauren.
This photo seems to create a flash back of happier times between the two girls
where they were enjoying each other’s company.
The speed that is represented in this photo has connotations of their relationship as it was quickly over because of the arguments/ distance that had been created between them. We wanted to incorporate this because the song is based on a relationship that seemed to be strong but in the end did not last for long. The lighting in the middle photo seems a little duller but there are still elements of high key lighting which connotes their warm feelings for each other.
The main theme of our video was to show two teenagers having fun and we felt that this image really showed this. The last photo which we chose for our back cover gives a completely different feel than the others but links in well with the final bit of our story. The photo has a low key lighting effect which creates a solitude atmosphere as well as a negligent effect. The last photo again shows me on my own which is why the story fits so well with the image. I was on my own but happy, then fell in love with someone and now on my own again but this time hurt so the mood is obviously unhappy. The fact that I am shown to be looking over at one particular area in this photo relates to the memories that I must be having of the time spent in this place with the friend that I lost.
For the promotional poster we decided to pick an image that again showed the graffiti element which we used for our album package. We felt that if we carried on using the same setting then it would become memorable to our audience and it would almost be like our tag, the image would stay in the minds of our audience because it would be repeated throughout our marketing campaign. Originally, with some feedback from our teacher, we thought we should use a photo that had more space for the information that needed to be stated on the poster but we felt this did not run with our theme and we wanted the graffiti wall to be our signature for this music video. We wanted people to know us more for our images more than the name. The high key lighting in this photo is very similar to the front cover of our album package so they closely link with one another.
